Philosophy
and Vision
At
Ancient Wisdom (AW) the principles of interconnectedness, Divine
immanence and community inspire our work.
On an ever-shrinking planet, personal health and wholeness in
body, mind and spirit are inseparable from the larger goal of
world peace so desperately needed in our time. Our essential interconnectedness
both with each other and our planet is undeniable. Physical health
on a poisoned planet is impossible; pollution honors no borders
and we are what we eat.
Likewise, peace of mind in a climate poisoned with fear of war,
terrorism, crime or unemployment is equally unattainable. So much
of our dis-ease stems from these forces. Because we cannot give
to the world what we do not have, inner peace must precede outer.
Thus, our goal at AW is to provide the services and surroundings
that promote an inner peace which can inspire magical peace activism
in the wider world.

In our work we honor the Goddess, the Immanent Life Force,
the Ancient Wisdom, within and around us. Spiritually we
are inspired by the Reclaiming tradition of Witchcraft (www.reclaiming.org),
though we welcome all who share our vision and goals for personal
and planetary peace making. As written in the Reclaiming Principles
of Unity, "Honoring both Goddess and God, we work with female
and male images of divinity, always remembering their essence
is a Mystery which goes beyond form."
We hold sacred the elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water, knowing
them to be the manifestation of that Life Force. As Chief Seattle
taught us, "We did not weave the web of life. We are merely
strands in it. What we do to it, we do to ourselves." To
defile the planet is to defile ourselves and both acts are sacrilege.
Thus, at AW preservation and healing of our sacred Earth
through the teaching and modeling of urban permaculture (a combination
of the words permanent & agriculture or permanent & culture)
is central to our mission. We once heard permaculture
defined as "revolution disguised as organic gardening".
We just love that idea!
We invite all who wish to work for these goals to become part
of a community of transformation. Without such communities
of support such a vision will never become reality.
